In this painting I wanted to create a transparent wave coming ashore.

This Dutch landscape is made as a commission for someone in Moldavia. She comes from Holland and wanted something typical Dutch. Sooo.... windmills and water.

Fall 2017

Each year I try to paint an autumn-landscape. Problem is  the complexity  of color, all kind of branches going different ways etc.
After seeing a you tube video of Michael  James Smith
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FW9IMQ59A0, I knew how to start a complex painting.
Of course you don't copy a painting, but it really helps to discover how to handle a problem.
Like Michael I started the painting from back to fore-ground, put a lot of layers  over the former layer of paint.
I wanted to let the viewer feel the thickness of all the leaves laying on the ground. See the sun coming trough the leaves at the right.

The barley field in the fore-ground was a difficult one. How to paint the barley as realistic  as possible witout detailing it too much.

A location nearby the woods. Saw this spot at a so-called "klompenpad". The light coming from the left, the dark fore-ground....beautiful. Silence, only birds singing. You don't have to go to France for a painter's week. Just look around in your own environment

Plein air painting

In the past I didn't really like plein air painting. All those people looking at you with lots of useless remarks.
This week I joined a group of plein air painters in my home-village. Together we go out and paint .
It's fun and very relaxing. Never thougt I would do this again!
Yesterday we painted around a  farm.
Painting is not finished yet. Later this week I will continue in my studio. Need some more work on the two poles. Maybe a bit more yellow in the woods at the background.

Winter 2017

Made this painting from a picture I took last winter in the woods. I was interested in the morning light coming from left.
This time I wanted to paint more transparent, no heavy layers of paint.

The good shepherd

Finished this painting about the good Shepherd. It's for my youngest son who has severe multiple disabilities and is going to move to a special home at the end of the month.

New illustrations

Last year I did a commission about making illustrations for a serie of books called "religious education"
I got a new commission to continue the series. It's fun to do .

New paintings finished

It's been awhile since I did some painting, but here I'm again.
Finished some paintings I stopped working on in summer.

I had this canvas somewhere laying around. Did a painting I wasn't happy with, so I put it aside.

Couple of weeks ago I started again on top of the old painting and used a picture from my stash and a lot of imagination. And this time it worked!

I was in Zeeland in february 2016. Cold and windy.

It took a lot of time and trying again and again to capture the cold and windy atmosphere

Sometimes I get a nice commission on making cartoons.
Mostly publications from Boekencentrum, Yes or HGJB( Dutch organisation for Christian Youth)
At this moment I'm working on a book about religious education.

Ginkel heath in winter

The Ginkel heath nearby the town of Ede. Place where British para's landed in WW2.
It was  freezin'cold when my wife and I made a long walk there.
You have great panorama's there. Tried to capture that in a painting.

Last one for this time

Winter is almost over. Though"winter"?
Painted this one to get the feeling of the old  Dutch painters. I took a picture of an old painting, used  Gimp to change the direction of the original and  cropped the picture a bit.
It was fun painting it.
